City of Colwood has announced its closing parking lots near beaches and parks on a temporary basis amid COVID-19 pandemic.

Parking at beaches and parks in Colwood won’t be possible for the time being.

That’s because the City of Colwood has announced that they’re temporarily closing the parking areas adjacent to their beaches and parks, including Esquimalt Lagoon Beach and Royal Beach.

Parking along Ocean Boulevard between Fort Rodd Hill and Lagoon Road has also been closed on a temporary basis, beginning March 25.

Beaches and parks remain open to the public, but the closure of parking at those locations is being done in order to limit the gathering of large crowds and further reduce the spread of COVID-19, according to the city.

“We can be the heroes in this battle by taking the one simple action of staying home. That small sacrifice will give us the best chance of beating this outbreak,” Colwood Mayor Rob Martin said in a press release issued by the city on Tuesday afternoon.
