A tower crane is being disassembled and removed next week in Victoria, and the city is letting drivers know of closures to a section of Johnson Street next week.

From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, the 900-block of Johnson, between Quadra Street and Vancouver Street, will be closed during crane disassembly.

The city says local access will be maintained to businesses and homes in the 900-block and the north sidewalk with stay open at all times to pedestrians.

BC Transit has been notified of the closures and busses will be rerouted, and officials say cyclists must dismount and walk their bikes.

The city says high winds and mechanical issues could extend the work into Thursday.

Anyone travelling near the construction zone is advised to use caution and obey all traffic control personnel and signage.
