BC Hydro says its crews are investigating several outages on south Vancouver Island, where close to 10,000 customers are without power Sunday afternoon.

The hydro company’s outage list, as of 3 p.m. Feb. 25, mentions 22 outages in North Saanich, Central Saanich, Colwood, Langford, Metchosin and Sooke. Also included in this list are smaller outages in Duncan, Chemainus and Ganges.

A total of 9,921 customers on the South Island are currently without power.

Many of the outages are in the Sooke and Metchosin areas, where a tree down across wires is to blame for one that’s affecting more than 1,400 customers.

But the cause of the other outages is still under investigation, according to Hydro’s list, which is regularly updated. The first outage was reported around 1:10 p.m., and the company adds that crews have been assigned to restore the power.
