Transport Canada says RCMP were notified after a plane attempting to land in Nanaimo last Thursday had a close encounter with a drone.

According to a Transport Canada occurrence report, the Air Canada Jazz de Havilland Dash 8 was making a final approach from Vancouver, when a remotely piloted aircraft was spotted at the same altitude, just off its left wing.

The report published by the Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System (CADORS) says the “pilot advised it was close to the aircraft and that it was black, small to medium in size, and looked like a personal use drone.”

The plane landed safely and there is no damage reported to the plane.

The incident is categorized as unauthorized entry into controlled airspace.
