A cyclist in Parksville is shaken but not seriously injured after he was a victim of a hit-and-run on May 28.

Oceanside RCMP says that at around 9:30 p.m., a 59-year-old cyclist was biking on Memorial Avenue towards Highway 4A in Parksville when he was hit by the mirror of a passing vehicle.

The car did not stop and continued west on Memorial Avenue and did not come back to help the cyclist who was hit.

Police say the cyclist was “surprisingly able to maintain his balance and was not thrown to the ground. He suffered minor injuries and was assessed by the BC Ambulance Service.”

The cyclist had lighting on both the front and back of his bike.

The hit-and-run car is described as a black, 1990s model Ford Thunderbird, according to Oceanside RCMP, who say the cyclist believed the driver was holding something in their hand.

If you witnessed this event or you have any information, you are asked to call Const. Ells of the Oceanside RCMP at (250)248-6111.
