Climate activists protest in downtown Victoria on Sept. 26, 2019.

Dozens of people showed up to protest at 12 p.m.outside several banks on Douglas Street. Many people cut up their bank cards and pledged to take their money out of their bank if the institutions continue to fund fossil fuel projects. Rise and Resist says RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO and CIBC have invested billions of dollars in fossil fuel projects.

The demonstration is part of an overall climate movement that is putting pressure on financial institutions to divest billions from fossil fuel projects in favour of renewable energy projects.
