Residents in Campbell River can now participate in fitness classes outside.

The City of Campbell River has begun offering outdoor fitness classes in an effort to offer recreational programming amid the coronavirus pandemic. Outdoor classes will be limited and include newer safety measures to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

“In line with the province’s restart plan, and as part of gradually, carefully re-opening facilities and
resuming services where it’s safe to do so, we’re looking forward to seeing people in person again for fitness classes,” City of Campbell River fitness supervisor Mary Fast, said in a press release.

The first classes will be held on June 30 and July 2 at 9 a.m., the press release notes.

Campbell River continues to offer online fitness classes and reopened its weight room at the Sportsplex earlier this month.

The city says the outdoor fitness classes “complement” weight room access, and build on the popularity of its other fitness programs.

“We know that keeping healthy is important generally, and especially as people cope with all the
changes in our lives right now,” Fast adds. “We’re welcoming people back to classes structured around guidelines and recommendations from provincial authorities, including the BC Recreation and Parks Association and Work Safe BC.”
