CHEK Upside: Westshore Motorsports Park preparing for final season

While it might be quiet now, come this weekend Westshore Motorsports Park will be rocked with the sound of high horsepower engines.

This weekend is the kickoff for race season, which will feature Hit to Pass and plenty of other special features on the cards.

“We’re going to have fireworks, all our crazy typical stuff that we do on these nights, demo cars, rollover contest, boat races,” says track general manager Daryl Crocker.

2022 marks the final year for the Langford oval, with track officials planning a busy schedule to send the venue off in style.

“We’ve got a great Monster Truck show in May with Megasaurus and that’s going to be a first,” says Crocker.

“There’s a new Sprint Car series on the Island, we have a Super Late Model race this year….So there’s just lots of good stuff like usual with a couple of extras.”

While Saturday might be the first official race of the year, the facility has already hosted several successful events including the Island Cup 4X4 competition.

“We’ve been doing it for many years, since 2006, but I think this is our first chance to really prove that it’s a viable thing for our community,” says event organizer Cory Hinds.

“It was definitely fun for all the guys to get the crowd pumped up, it was electric.”

“It was another thing that shows how necessary to have these venues, because these guys before were out in the woods doing it without the proper kind of stuff,” says Crocker.

“We were able to offer that and they were able to offer a great show.”

The Opening Night of Mayhem kicks off Apr. 9, with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.
