The Victoria Children’s Choir is returning to the stage after two years without performing in front of a live audience.

“We are so incredibly thrilled to be back in person this year with the Victoria Children’s Choir,” says executive director, Carla Tadla.

Last year, the choir had to adapt to COVID-19 restrictions, and that meant altering their annual holiday concert.

“We obviously had to be socially or physically distanced, the children had to be masked,” says Tadla.

“So they [choir members] had to learn how to sing last year without all of the benefit of other voices right beside them.”

This year the concert is back in person with a travel-themed show featuring a wide variety of tunes and performers.

“We’d like to bring travel to the people of Victoria since so many of us haven’t been able to and also just a chance to get together in a holiday season,” says Tadla.

“Our oldest [performer] is seven and our youngest is 24,” says prelude choir director Mame Goehner.

“So you are going to hear everything from small voices that are learning how to grow to very polished performers.”

It’s a chance for some choir members to perform before an audience for the very first time.

“These kids who have lived through a global pandemic don’t know what an audience is and they don’t know what it feels like to have people watch them,” says Goehner.
