CHEK Upside: Victoria Ale Trail passport program returning

A popular promotion involving Island breweries is back once again.

The B.C. Ale Trail was created as a way to highlight craft breweries, restaurants, cafes and liquor stores across the province.

“I think we’ve got 18 different regions spread across all over B.C., all with itineraries for people to check out the breweries and the other activities in all those areas,” says BC Ale Trail content manager Joe Wiebe.

Last year as a way to help breweries recover from the pandemic, the Victoria Ale Trail Passport promotion kicked off. Participants who collected stamps from six different breweries were entered in a prize draw, with the idea proving to be a huge success.

“We had literally thousands of passports handed out,” says Wiebe.

“We had several hundred passports completed and handed in and that means people who visited at least six breweries and a lot of people did it multiple times.”

Now back for year two, the passport features 14 breweries and two taprooms from across Greater Victoria.

“We have all the kind of core breweries in downtown Victoria as well as several breweries up the Saanich Peninsula,” says Wiebe.

It’s an exciting initiative that has businesses happy to be a part of the program.

“We’re just always excited to be a part of the craft beer community in B.C.,” says The Drake Eatery supervising manager Ben Isaacs.

“It’s nice to see people come through the doors from some of the great breweries from around the province.”
