It was a magical morning at one Langford car dealership.
Earlier this week, King’s Auto Sales owner David King announced his partnership with the Victoria Cool Aid Society and the intention to give away a car to someone in need.
On Friday, a winner was announced.
“The whole purpose of this was to bless someone who whether it’s from the pandemic or otherwise just didn’t have the means for a car and I think we’ve achieved it,” says King.
Also on hand were several representatives from the Cool Aid Society, including its CEO Kathy Stinson.
“It’s exciting when people from the community want to step up and give back and help somebody that’s been struggling,” says Kathy. “It’s fantastic news, so yeah we were thrilled to be a part of it,” adds Stinson.
The lucky winning nominee was Michelle Weir. She hasn’t owned a vehicle for over five years, so when her friend Melissa saw the giveaway she knew immediately who the perfect candidate was.
“I work with the vulnerable population and it was easy to identify her need and when I saw the application I had no problem filling it out,” smiles Melissa.
Melissa was just as surprised as Michelle when she heard the news that Michelle had won the car.
“Man we were totally shocked when we got the call,” says Melissa. “I knew she had a vehicle previously and now she needed one more than ever, she’s got three kids and I know she would drive them around where they need to go,” adds Melissa.
Once the paperwork was signed, the moment everyone was waiting for came. Michelle was given the keys to her 2004 Chevy Malibu, complete with three months paid insurance and a one year warranty.
For the ever appreciative caregiver, who has been out of work since the pandemic began, the wheels will provide a new lease on life.
“She is very kind, caring and she’d be forever grateful,” says Melissa.
“Shes really thankful and I can tell that it’s going to change her life,” says David.
