A car heading east/southbound on busy Burnside Road careened off the road around 8:45 a.m. before crashing into a neighbouring business.

The car jumped the sidewalk, slamming fender first into Kuku’s East Indian Restaurant. The driver of the car then backed out of the building, hitting a hydro pole before stopping in a 7-11 parking lot.

Saanich Police are investigating, and say they are treating the incident as a medical emergency.

“I’m just happy no one was hurt,” said co-owner Kuku’s Restaurant Anita Madhar, referring to her employees who were there setting up for an early order.

Officials say the store is completely destroyed, and are now testing the integrity of the building to see if it’s still sound.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Traffic was being reduced to one lane each way on Burnside, but as of 12 p.m. the investigation was cleared and open to normal traffic.
