The Capital Regional District (CRD) has announced that its regional park campgrounds will reopen next month.
The CRD’s Island View Beach Regional Park, Sooke Potholes Regional Park, and Jordan River Regional Park will reopen to the public on June 5.
Online registration for Island View Beach campground will open on May 29 while Sooke Potholes and Jordan River campgrounds remain open on a first-come-first-served basis.
All sites at Island View Beach Campground will only be reservable with no first-come-first-serve.
In a press release, the CRD said in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remain in line with provincial health orders, all campsites will be cleaned between occupancies and the capacity of campsites has been reduced.
“We are reducing the regular capacity from seven people to six people per site to be in line with social distancing recommendations and to reduce group gatherings,” the CRD said.
The group fire ring at Island View Beach Campground will also be closed.
Visitors must follow orders set out by the provincial health officer and are encouraged to bring their own cleaning kit with them and to clean the amenities around their campsite such as picnic tables.
“The CRD will continue to have a more visible presence in the parks to encourage responsible parks usage by educating visitors about social distancing, monitoring visitor use and continuing to enforce park bylaws. CRD parks visitors can expect to see increased presence of park interpreters, park rangers and CRD bylaw officers,” the district said in its release.
The announcement comes as other regional districts, and even the province, announce reopening dates for campgrounds.
