A spokesperson for the City of Victoria says a candle is the cause of the fire.

Victoria firefighters were called out to an early morning camper van fire on Balfour Avenue.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, the fire sparked and the cause has been deemed “human error” in using a candle.

A spokesperson for the City of Victoria says there were no injuries in the fire, but it was occupied at the time.

When the firefighters from Engine 3 and Squad 2 arrived, the fire was fully involved.

“During suppression, three loud explosions were heard from the vehicle’s tires rupturing,” the Victoria Firefighters Association said in an Instagram post.

“Knowing the vehicle was equipped with propane tanks, firefighters maintained a safe but effective distance. With such large flames, a nearby tree and the house’s telecom wires were also on fire, but the crews were able to ensure the fire spread no further.”

Other than spreading to the nearby tree and telecom wires, the fire was kept contained to the vehicle.
