Canada Post is advising customers to expect prolonged delivery delays as rotating strikes by its unionized workers continue Tuesday.

The Crown corporation says Canadians should expect parcel and mail deliveries to be delayed into 2019.

Members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) continued rotating strikes in Ontario and in Prince George Tuesday, nearly a month after 24-hour walkouts began.

Canada Post says the strikes have “touched virtually every Canada Post facility and every Canadian address so far.”

The corporation says walkouts have created a massive backlog of mail and parcels already in the network, with millions more expected with Black Friday and Cyber Monday online sales.

CUPW turned down the latest contract offer from Canada Post Monday, which included a holiday cooling off period, mediation and a possible $1,000 bonus for its members.

The union said its legal strike activities will continue in various cities today until “we achieve the collective agreements that we deserve.”

Canada Post says the worst delays for mail and parcels will be for items that originate or are destined for southern and southwestern Ontario, with hundreds of transport trailers sitting idle at its main Toronto sorting facility.
