Campbell River RCMP has launched an investigation into a trailer fire that occurred at a homeless camp over the weekend that is being considered suspicious.

The incident took place on October 17, when police say they were called to assist the Campbell River Fire Department with a travel trailer that was on fire.

The blaze sparked at a homeless camp located at 2600 Quinsam Rd.

According to police, no one was injured as a result of the fire, however, the travel trailer was destroyed.

Cst. Maury Tyre with the RCMP said that at this point in time, the fire “is considered suspicious.”

An investigation is ongoing and Tyre adds that it isn’t evidently clear if any criminality led to the fire or if it was “a simple lack of care.”

Investigators are asking if anyone has any information regarding the incident to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
