Bus driver assaulted by passenger in North Saanich Tuesday morning

WATCH: A bus driver, who has been on the job for more than 20 years, was viciously attacked on his route in North Saanich this morning. Police have released surveillance photos of the suspect hoping to track him down, while the bus driver’s union says this could have been prevented. April Lawrence reports.

A bus driver is in the hospital for treatment of facial injuries suffered after being assaulted by a passenger Tuesday morning in North Saanich.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP says they responded to a call at around 7 a.m. of a serious assault against the bus driver in the area of Lochside Drive and Bakerview Place.

Police are asking the public to help identify the suspect male, who is known to use BC Transit and takes the same route daily.

The suspect is described as having dark hair, a moustache or goatee and has a thin build.

Investigators say he was wearing a checkered coat with a white undershirt.

It was reported to police the passenger fled the bus on foot with his duffle bag after the attack.

Any witnesses who saw the assault, or can identify the suspect, are asked to call Sidney/North Saanich RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
