‘In My Backyard’: Burning man-inspired event takes over Victoria Saturday

WATCH: A crowd gathered in downtown Victoria Saturday night for a one-of-a kind art extravaganza. It was the first year for “In My Backyard” an event inspired by the famous burning man festival. Isabelle Raghem reports. 

From a man playing the piano inside a cage to an interactive musical cash register, and everything in between.

I.M.B.Y or In My Backyard took place in Centennial Square Saturday. Festival organizers call it a weirdness extravaganza.

“We’re part of the local burning man organization so we follow the burning man 10 principles and its inspired by that,” said co-producer Megan Will.

It’s a salute to the burning man festival in the Nevada desert ? an event that attracts more than 50 thousand people every year.

“We’re trying to bring a piece of the desert back home, a lot of the people call the playa home there’s nothing like it , but this is a piece of it, so the interactive art, a place for people to radically express themselves without fear of judgment its very inclusive environment lots of art lots of neat ideas stuff you wouldn’t see anywhere else,” added Will.

The one-day event run by the kindle arts society is an opportunity for dozens of local artists to showcase their work.

They hope to bring back the event year after year.
