The Capital Regional District has issued a boil water advisory for parts of Salt Spring Island.

According to a media release issued by the regional district, a boil water advisory is in place for the Highland part of the Highland-Fernwood water service area following a water main break that recently occurred.

As a result, people in the Highland-Fernwood service area are being asked to vigorously boil their water for one minute prior to use.

“As a result of a recent watermain break and subsequent repairs, water quality may have been compromised in the system. As a precaution, the boil water advisory will be in effect until flushing and water samples indicate the water quality no longer poses a risk to public health. Residents in the impacted area should BOIL their drinking water until further notice,” the Capital Regional District said in its media release.

The CRD said the advisory will be lifted when Island Health believes it is safe to do so.
