Body found at Rutledge Park, police investigating

WATCH: A woman was found dead on a park bench on Monday morning and police are treating her death as suspicious. April Lawrence has more.

Saanich police are investigating after a woman was found dead in Rutledge Park Monday morning.

Police had cordoned off the park as part of their investigation and members of the Detective Division and Forensic Identification Section were at the scene. The deceased woman was found on a park bench by someone walking through the area at around 8:30 a.m.

Police said the woman has not been identified and a cause of death has not been determined. The BC Coroners Service is also investigating.

“We are treating it as suspicious simply because we don’t know who she is, we don’t know how she died and she died in a public place, so we want to make sure we aren’t missing anything along the way,” Sgt. Julie Fast with Saanich police said.

The park reopened at around 12 p.m. and there is no longer police tape surrounding the bench. Fast said they contained the scene to look for any potential evidence.
