More black bear sightings have been reported wandering in the Saanich neighbourhoods on Friday, adding to the growing list of wildlife seen in the Greater Victoria area the past couple weeks.

Saanich Police said they have received multiple calls over the past few days regarding bear sightings and on Friday, they were notified yet again of black bear sightings in the UVic Student Housing area.

The British Columbia Conservation Services have been informed and will be attending the area to investigate and monitor the situation, says Saanich Police Department.

With a spike in bear sightings over the past few days, Saanich Police Department is asking all residents to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Officers urge the public to not approach any bears and go to a safe place and report the sighting.

Bears have been sighted all across the Capital Regional District in recent weeks, and on Tuesday, a bear was euthanized in Langford after conservation officers decided the bear was not a candidate for relocation.

The high number of reported sightings is not surprising to some as Vancouver Island has the highest density of black bears in B.C. and, with limited territory, the omnivores are heading into local neighbourhoods.
