Saanich police are advising the public after a bear cub was spotted in the Tillicum area Sunday morning.

Officers say several reports of the animal came in from around Cowper Street and Dysart Road.

They say the bear is not aggressive and would like to remind the community bear sightings are common this time of year. The public is cautioned to be aware of their surrounding and pets.

Police add that it is a good reminder to bear-proof your property, by removing uneaten pet food, keeping trash inside until pick up day or keeping trash cans secured.

If a bear is sighted in an urban setting, it should be reported to the B.C. Conservation Service at 1-877-952-7277.
