BC Transit has announced it will be offering free service throughout the Victoria Regional Transit System as a way to celebrate Earth Day this Thursday.

The transit provider is encouraging Greater Victoria residents to leave their cars at home and take the bus on April 22, free of charge.

BC Transit is offering free transit on both conventional routes and handyDART services in the region throughout the day, according to a press release from the transportation provider.

“Earth Day helps shine a spotlight on the importance of sustainability and encourages people to make choices that will help protect our environment,” reads a statement from BC Transit.

“Choosing transit instead of driving is one easy way to take action. It not only helps to ease traffic congestion but also decreases greenhouse emissions by reducing the number of vehicles on the road.”

As part of the Earth Day messaging, BC Transit is reminding residents that all conventional BC Transit buses are equipped with bike racks in the front as well, in an effort to help support other sustainable transportation options.
