BC Transit announced that buses in the Comox Valley will be equipped with full driver doors – a movable barrier located to the right of the driver’s seat near the farebox – designed to protect the health and safety and bus operators.

Comox Valley Regional Transit System riders will soon notice a difference when they board a bus.

BC Transit has announced that buses in the Comox Valley will be equipped with full driver doors – a movable barrier located to the right of the driver’s seat near the farebox – designed to protect the health and safety and bus operators.

“[The doors] were designed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic to increase protection for our drivers. The door includes a transparent piece of laminated tempered glass with anti-glare coating and metal base and the windows can be adjusted to account for sightlines associated with different seat positions,” said BC Transit in a press release.

Full driver door installations will be carried out over a two-day period and BC Transit says a total of 633 buses across 34 transit systems throughout the province will be retrofitted by early October.

New buses added to the fleet will have doors pre-installed.
