One person was taken to hospital after a BC Transit bus and car collided in Victoria on Thursday morning.

Victoria police say they were called to the crash near the intersection of Douglas Street and Pembroke Street at 8:54 a.m.

BC Transit spokesperson Jamie Weiss says a Route 70 bus was travelling southbound on Douglas Street when a car came and hit the bus.

Passengers were onboard the bus at the time of the crash.

BC Transit says there were no “significant injuries,” though BC Emergency Health Services says that one ambulance was dispatched to the crash and paramedics took one person to hospital.

“The bus suffered serious damage in the incident, particularly to the front bumper, bike rack and front headlights, and there was lost service as a result,” said Weiss.

BC Transit says it will conduct its own internal investigation on the crash, and will assist VicPD in any way it can on its investigation.

“BC Transit thanks emergency services for their fast response,” said Weiss. “Safety is our top priority at BC Transit.”
