A new bus route and multiple service changes will be coming to Salt Spring Island with the aim of providing increased transit coverage to the community.

BC Transit and the Capital Regional District have announced that there will be year-round service to Beddis and Cusheon Lake roads beginning on Oct. 1.

BC Transit says that starting on Friday, October 1, the 7 Cusheon Lake will run three trips per day.

The transit organization outlines that the route will service areas with a number of destinations and visitor accommodations.

The new route will also provide additional service along Fulford Ganges Road so that residents have more options as well.

The plan for the new route will also incorporate service adjustments on other routes in order to match the demand and align with BC Ferries’ schedules.

BC Transit also has revealed that earlier Sunday service and holiday service will be introduced on the following routes:

  • 1 Ganges Local
  • 3 Vesuvius
  • 4 Long Harbour
  • 5 Fernwood
  • 6 SS Connector

In addition, earlier service options on Saturday will also be provided on routes 3, 4 and 5.

As of September 1, Free Transit for Children 12 and Under also launched across British Columbia on all BC Transit routes.

BC Transit is also reminding customers that face coverings are mandatory on all BC Transit buses.
