If you need a new furry family member, right now might be your best chance.

Due to an influx of animals looking for new homes, the BC SPCA is offering a 50 per cent discount on pet adoptions from Oct. 15 to Oct. 29. The discount covers cats, dogs, horses and other farm animals.

The move comes just as the BC SPCA reopened its facilities across the province to the public for adoption viewing.

“We’re really excited to welcome people back in and increase incentives for adoption,” said Breanne Beckett, senior manager at the SPCA’s Victoria branch.

In addition to the 50 per cent off adoption fees, the BC SPCA is offering an additional discount on senior animals, those eight years or older.

“You’re looking at 75 per cent off a senior animal to be your next forever friend,” said Beckett.

Over the next two weeks, adopting an adult cat will cost about $100 and $50 for a senior cat. Fees to adopt an adult dog are about $180 and $90 for an older dog.

If you are interested in adopting a new best friend, you can view all of the animals currently available for adoption across British Columbia at spca.bc.ca. Public adoption viewing at the Victoria location is Tuesdays to Saturdays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
