The BC SPCA is offering 50 per cent off its adoption fees for the next two weeks to celebrate “Adopt a Shelter Pet Day,” which falls on April 30.

The 50 per cent off promotion runs from April 25 to May 5 at all BC SPCA locations, and all BC SPCA animal centres will be hosting an open house on April 27.

The open houses will generally run from noon to 1 p.m., but the SPCA says people should check their local BC SPCA branch for specific times and activities planned for the day.

“The open houses are an opportunity for the public to learn more about what the BC SPCA does and see all of the ways we care for animals in our community,” said Adrienne McBride, BC SPCA senior director of community animal centres.

“It also gives us a chance to shine a light on some of the amazing animals in our centres who have been patiently waiting for their forever home,” she said.

One of the pets available for adoption is Oso, a nearly four-year-old Kangal shepherd dog and German shepherd mix who has been in the care of the BC SPCA Comox Valley & District Branch for more than 250 days.

The snuggly 110-pound pooch loves people but is reactive to other dogs and would be best placed at a home without another dog.

Otherwise, Oso loves to play with his toys outside and is described as a “large, loving and goofy” guy who has “absolutely stolen the hearts of the staff who care for him.”
