BC Ferries said extra sailings have been added for the Remembrance Day long weekend.

BC Ferries is offering free passenger travel for military personnel and seniors on Remembrance Day.

The free travel offer is new this year and applies to passenger fares with the presentation of official Canadian military identification or travelling in uniform. It’s available for active, reserve and retired military personnel as well as cadets.

Seniors in B.C. can also travel for free with the presentation of a BC Services Card, BC Driver’s License, BC Identification Card or birth certificate. Complimentary travel is offered on BC Ferries to seniors from Monday to Thursday except on holidays but this year, the free fare is extending to Remembrance Day.

The vehicle fare still applies for military personnel and seniors. And the free fares are not applicable on the Inside Passage, Haida Gwaii and Central Coast Connector routes.

BC Ferries has added 24 extra sailings on the Tsawwassen — Swartz Bay route for the Remembrance Day long weekend. Two extra round trips have been added between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay.

All Canadian flags on BC Ferries’ vessels will fly at half-mast for Remembrance Day and two minutes of silence will occur at 11 a.m. on the vessels and at terminals.

Ferry travellers are reminded to try to make a reservation during long weekend travel or go at off-peak times to avoid the rush.

Customers with reservations should plan to arrive at the terminal 45 — 60 minutes before their scheduled departure. Walk-on passengers should arrive 45 minutes before their anticipated sailing.
