BC Ferries says it’s temporarily changing the route and schedule of its Swartz Bay (Victoria) to Tsawwassen (Vancouver) route to help reduce delays and better maintain one of its vessels.

The route and schedule change is in effect between Feb. 1 and March 3 aboard the Coastal Inspiration vessel.

The changes are due to BC Ferries attempting to “save wear” on the drive motor of the Coastal Inspiration before it undergoes a refit in the spring.

To help maintain its drive motor, the Coastal Inspiration has been taking an alternate route and travelling east of Saturna Island when it travels between Victoria and Vancouver.

This route change results in a longer sailing time, which has led to some delays for travellers, “particularly for the late afternoon and evening sailings, in spite of significant effort to expedite loading times.”

Shifting the schedule from February to March will allow travellers to be more confident that their sailings will leave on time, according to BC Ferries.

“They also won’t have any impact on our ability to move the significant amount of people expected to travel over spring break,” said the company.

The altered Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen schedule for Feb. 1 to March 3 can be found below, with the altered sailings marked with an asterisk:
