With the official start of summer at the end of the week, extra sailings will be added to BC Ferries’ schedules starting Friday to and from Vancouver Island.

On the most popular route between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay, there will be 6 a.m. sailings Monday through Saturday beginning Friday, except on statutory holidays.

Hourly sailings will be daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and midnight sailings have also been added to the schedule.

Starting Thursday for the route between Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay, there will be a 6:25 a.m. sailing both ways and select 11:40 p.m. sailings departing Horseshoe Bay.

For Duke Point and Tsawwassen, there will be 16 sailings per day between 5:15 a.m. and 10:45 p.m. each day starting June 26 until September 2.

BC Ferries says additional sailings have also been added for Metro Vancouver and the Southern Gulf Islands.

The corporation says the most popular travel times during the summer are usually Thursday and Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings from Vancouver.

Sunday afternoon from the Island is generally the most busy time for sailings for people returning home.

BC Ferries recommends customers reserve or travel outside peak times to avoid sailing waits.
