90 new COVID-19 cases reported on Vancouver Island

British Columbia health officials on Wednesday reported new 814 new COVID-19 cases but no new deaths since their last update on Sept. 7.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now at 171,564 while the death toll remains at 1,842.

Of the new cases, 90 were in Island Health, 135 were in Vancouver Coastal Health, 241 were in Fraser Health, 272 were in Interior Health, 72 new cases were recorded in Northern Health and four were in people who generally reside outside of Canada.

There are currently 5,550 active cases in the province, 255 people in hospital — 126 of whom are in intensive care. There were also 713 recoveries recorded within the past 24 hours.

According to new data released by the province, people not fully vaccinated accounted for nearly 80 per cent of all cases between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6 and unvaccinated people accounted for 86 per cent of all hospitalizations between Aug. 24 and Sept. 6.

A total of 163,793 people in B.C. have recovered from the virus while 7,557,556 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

Island Health

There are 385 active cases on Vancouver Island — 63 in North Island, 163 in Central Island and 159 in South Island — according to the latest update from Island Health, which is 100 fewer cases than what the provincial government has reported.

Eighteen people are currently in hospital, 12 of whom are in critical care.

Over the past 24 hours, there were 106 recoveries, 960 tests performed for COVID-19 and 1,925 doses of vaccine administered in Island Health. Of those doses, 13 were AstraZeneca, 1,211 were Moderna and 701 doses were Pfizer.

A total of 1,260,763 vaccine doses — 604,835 are second doses — have been administered on Vancouver Island. This includes 33,028 doses of AstraZeneca, 327,768 doses of Moderna and 899,967 doses of Pfizer.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 6,952 cases reported, 52 deaths, 303 total hospitalizations, and 6,369 recoveries recorded on Vancouver Island.
