B.C. has now administered more than 5 million doses of COVID vaccine, 44 new cases reported

More than 5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered in British Columbia as health officials report 44 new cases.

More than 5 million doses of novel coronavirus vaccine have now been administered in British Columbia.

Provincial health officials on Wednesday reported 44 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths since their last update on June 29.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now at 147,621 while the death toll remains unchanged at 1,754.

Of the new cases, 12 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 17 were in Fraser Health, one was in Island Health, 14 were in Interior Health. Once again, there were no new cases in the Northern Health region.

There are currently 816 active cases in the province, 108 people in hospital — 34 of whom are in intensive care.

A total of 145,032 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while 5,002,916 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

“Today, we are reporting that 78.4 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 77.1 per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, 32.8 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 30.6 per cent of those 12 and older have received their second dose,” the province said in a statement released to the media.

Island Health

With only one new coronavirus case reported on Vancouver Island in the past 24 hours, Wednesday’s figures remain largely unchanged.

There are currently 16 active cases, six people in hospital — three of whom are in critical care — on Vancouver Island.

Those figures remain largely unchanged from yesterday, however, there is one less person in critical care today.

When it comes to active cases, there are now four cases in the South Island, 12 cases in Central Island. For the second straight day in a row, there are no active cases in the North Island.

In the past 24 hours, there were 10,410 doses of vaccine administered on Vancouver Island. Of those, 98 doses were AstraZeneca, 2,761 doses were Moderna and 7,551 doses were Pfizer.

A total of 820,959 doses of vaccine have been administered Island-wide, 27 per cent of which are second doses.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 5,160 cases identified, 41 deaths, 254 hospitalizations, and 5,098 recoveries in the Island Health region.
