188 new COVID-19 cases reported on Vancouver Island

British Columbia health officials have reported 1,236 new COVID-19 cases and nine deaths since their last update on Jan. 31.

None of the new deaths over the past 24 hours were in Island Health.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now at 325,851 while the death toll climbs to 2,625.

Of the new cases, 188 were in Island Health, 212 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 253 were in Fraser Health, 406 were in Interior Health, and 171 were in Northern Health. There were also six cases identified in individuals who don’t normally reside in Canada.

There are currently 28,302 active cases in the province — including 1,534 in Island Health — and 1,035 people in hospital, 139 of whom are in intensive care. The BCCDC dashboard currently shows the Island Health region as having 151 people in hospital, seven of whom are in critical care.

According to B.C. health officials, 92.7 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 90.1 per cent have received their second dose and 46.4 per cent have received a third dose.

Meanwhile, a total of 293,488 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while more than million doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.
