WATCH: A spooked sheep south of Nanaimo terrified several people on Tuesday as it lived up to its name and rammed a couple of people, one of them a two-year-old. Kendall Hanson has more.

A sheep caused some trouble Tuesday morning when it escaped from its pen and knocked over two kids near Nanaimo.

Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien said a two-year-old ram named Moses got loose from a hobby farm on Grandom Place in South Wellington before 11:30 a.m. The animal then got rambunctious and knocked over two young children, a boy and a girl, who were walking with a daycare operator in the area. The daycare worker was also knocked to the ground.

According to O’Brien, there was a bit of a standoff but the sheep did not attack the group any further. The children and the adult left the area and called 911.

“The daycare operator, she became mama bear and protected the kids,” O’Brien said.

Moses’ owner was contacted by police and immediately came home to corral the animal. Police determined the sheep managed to slip through a hole in the fence. The hole was secured with rope.

O’Brien said the kids and daycare operator were all checked out at the hospital. The preschool-aged children had soft tissue injuries but were otherwise fine, according to O’Brien.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and the owner was genuinely upset and remorseful for the actions of one of her animals, and has taken corrective measures to ensure Moses does not escape again. Thankfully no one was seriously injured,’ O’Brien said.
