A 25-year-old woman from Coquitlam is facing criminal charges after she allegedly coughed at a grocery clerk who refused to let her purchase extra tissues.

The incident happened at a grocery store on Parkway Boulevard in Coquitlam on April 13 according to Coquitlam RCMP.

Police said in a press release that the woman became angry, irate and “deliberately coughed” on a store employee after she was not allowed to purchase more than the store’s maximum amount of tissue paper.

This is a great example of why we need to keep perspective, take a breath, and treat essential workers like grocery store clerks with the respect they deserve, Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with Coquitlam RCMP said in statement.

The woman, who was not identified, was arrested at her home after RCMP officers spoke to witnesses and reviewed video footage of the alleged incident.

She has been released and is expected to appear in court on July 13.
