More than 30 executives of B.C. forest companies are headed to Asia to explore ways to raise the value of products the province exports.

The group joins B.C. Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Minister Doug Donaldson on the trip that starts Sunday.

China and Japan are the second and third largest markets of softwood lumber products.

The delegation will meet with overseas clients and government officials.

In China, the group will attend the third annual Sino-Canada Wood Conference, which will emphasize opportunities for wood in prefabricated construction.

China accounted for more than $1 billion dollars worth of exports of B.C. Softwood lumber in 2016.

Exports to Japan totalled $725 million dollars last year.

The trade mission ends November 17.
