B.C. reports 717 new COVID-19 cases, 40 in Island Health

British Columbia health officials are reporting another 717 new cases of COVID-19, with 40 of those in the Island Health region.

It’s the highest number of new cases reported since early May.

The new cases bring the total in B.C. to 155,079, and the active total of cases to 4,277.

Of the active cases, 82 people are in hospital with 39 of those in intensive care units.

There were 140 new case in Fraser Health, 101 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 376 in Interior Health, 60 in Northern Health and 40 in Island Health.

There are currently 245 active cases in Island Health.

No new deaths have been reported, leaving the overall death toll from the disease at 1,779.

As for vaccinations, the province says 82.4 per cent of people 12 and older have received their first dose and 72 per cent have received both doses.

There are 11 active outbreaks in the province, including:

  • Holyrood Manor
  • Kin Village West Court
  • Evergreen Baptist Care Society (Fraser Health)
  • Nelson Jubilee Manor
  • Kootenay Street Village
  • Cottonwoods Care Centre
  • Brookhaven Care Centre
  • Village at Mill Creek (Interior Health)
  • Discovery Harbour (Island Health)
