B.C. reports 653 people hospitalized due to COVID; one death

Health officials in B.C. are reporting there are 653 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 108 who are in intensive care.

There has been one new death in Northern Health since the last update.

There are 799 new confirmed cases in the province, 140 of which are in Island Health.

Interior Health has 280 new cases, Fraser Health has 109, Vancouver Coastal Health has 52, and people who reside outside of Canada have four.

Northern Health has 214 additional cases, but the statement from the province notes 97 of those are due to data corrections ranging from April 2021 to Feb. 2022.

There are no new health care facility outbreaks.

From Feb. 15-21, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 20.4 per cent of cases and from Feb. 8-21 they accounted for 32.8 per cent of hospitalizations.

Only 9.5 per cent of people eligible in B.C. have not received any COVID vaccines.

Since December 2020, the province has administered 11,290,330 doses of COVID vaccines.
