B.C. health officials are reporting 18 deaths and an estimated 1,187 cases of COVID-19 since their last update on Tuesday.

Of the new deaths, five were recorded in Island Health, five in Vancouver Coastal Health, four in Fraser Health, two in Interior Health and two in Northern Health.

The latest fatalities bring the province’s overall death toll from the pandemic to 2,725.

Of the new cases, 316 were reported in Fraser Health, 147 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 370 in Interior Health, 191 in Northern Health and 163 in Island Health.

The province says there are currently 21,974 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, but earlier in the day Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said active cases would no longer be included in daily updates going forward as they no longer accurately reflect the actual number.

The province says 893 people are in hospital, a drop of nearly 100 hospitalizations from a day earlier. Of those, 143 people are in intensive care.

There has also been a new COVID-19 outbreak reported at Sidney All Care, a facility in Sidney, while an ongoing outbreak at Victoria General Hospital has been declared over.
