The provincial government announced Monday that they will be extending the existing freeze on rent increases until July 10, 2021.

Renters in British Columbia will no longer have to worry about their rent increasing this year.

The provincial government has announced that they will be extending the existing freeze on rent increases to July 10, 2021.

Rental increases were set to resume on Dec. 1.

“We know many renters are still facing income loss and even the slightest increase in rent could be extremely challenging. For that reason, we are extending the freeze on rent increases to provide more security for renters during the pandemic,” Selina Robinson, minister of municipal affairs and housing, said in a press release issued Monday.

B.C. originally froze increases on rent back in March.

The province says renters who received rental increase notices after the March ban, including increases set for Dec. 1, should “disregard those notices” and pay their current amount until July 10.
