Victoria Police says a man is in custody who was the suspect of an investigation into an assault causing bodily harm and an assault by choking.
the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) and patrol officers made the arrest following hours of negotiation after the man barricaded himself in a suite at a multi-unit supportive housing facility in the 700-block of Pandora Avenue just before 1 p.m. Thursday.
Victoria Police says the suspect refused to give himself over to arrest, and officers began negotiations with the man to try and resolve the incident peacefully.
Nearby residents were evacuated and Pandora Avenue was closed between Douglas and Blanshard streets.
After several hours of negotiation, irritant gas was used to arresting the man.
