Comox Valley RCMP say a man is in hospital with a serious head injury after an assault.

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a daytime assault in Courtenay on Tuesday, according to police.

Comox Valley RCMP said at around 1:25 p.m. on Nov. 19, they received a report of an assault in the 350-block of 6th Street. Emergency services found a 46-year-old man was found unconscious on the sidewalk. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“The victim and the suspect were at the Courtenay library shortly before getting into an altercation which resulted in the victim suffering a serious head injury,” Sgt. Glen Breckon with the Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit said in a statement.

“This is a busy area in Courtenay and we are looking for witnesses who may have seen the dispute between these two men, a disturbance at the library, or may have video or dashcam footage from around the time of the assault.”

Police said anyone with information on the assault can call Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321 and refer to file 2019-17839. Anyone with video footage can email Comox Valley RCMP at [email protected].
