An armed man was arrested at gunpoint Wednesday morning near Victoria High School after allegedly brandishing a knife at a teacher.
Victoria police said patrol officers were called to the square at the intersection of Gladstone Avenue and Fernwood Road just before 11 a.m. According to police, a teacher had spoken with a man who was allegedly consuming drugs on the stairs that lead into Victoria High School grounds.
The man allegedly confronted the teacher and brandished a knife. The man then left the area and went into a nearby business. The teacher was not injured.
The man was leaving the business when officers arrived. Police said he initially refused to obey officers’ commands to show his hands and began to reach for something behind his back. The officers then drew their service pistols and took the man into custody without further incident.
Police are still investigating the incident and said information on charges would be released later.
