An alert Nanaimo business owner has helped RCMP recover a stolen compressor, police are now trying to locate its rightful owner.

RCMP say a woman spotted a man pulling a compressor from the back of a pick-up on July 15th around 2 p.m.

She watched as he hid the item under his clothing and walked away, and then decided to follow.

Soon after, she watched as the man hid the compressor behind a tree on a property on Victoria Road and left.

The woman flagged down a City of Nanaimo bylaw officer and explained what had happened.

The officer than took possession of the compressor and handed it over to the local RCMP.

The owner of the truck the item was taken from has told police it isn’t his, and it has not been reported stolen.

This was great work. The witness didn’t put herself in harms way and her efforts were paid off with the recovery of the compressor, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

“Now all we need to do is find its lawful owner.”

The suspect is described as Caucasian, 5ft 10, with a slim build. He had crooked front teeth, and was wearing a blue jacket.
