Alberni Valley Rescue Squad retrieves man after he fell 30 feet near Sarita Falls

The Alberni Valley Rescue Squad has retrieved a man and transferred him to hospital after he fell approximately 30 feet off a trail near Sarita Falls, southwest of Port Alberni.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon, with police receiving a phone call shortly after 5 p.m.

The 24-year-old man was with a group of six people and one of the party was able to contact police through an OnStar system in one of their vehicles.

The BC RCMP tasked the Alberni Valley Rescue Squad, who flew to the area in a West Coast Helicopter.

A Cormorant helicopter from CFB Comox 442 Squadron was also called in once search and rescue teams were on the scene, which took the injured man to hospital.

Authorities say that the man had significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
