Man taken to hospital with serious injuries following mountain biking accident near Bowser

A man was retrieved by Arrowsmith Search and Rescue and taken to hospital by BC Ambulance after falling off his mountain bike on a trail near Bowser.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon, just after 2 p.m. when BC Ambulance got a call that a biker had gone off a three-metre jump and landed hard.

According to Arrowsmith Search and Rescue, the biker seriously injured his chest as part of the accident although when crews arrived on scene he was conscious and talking.

Search and Rescue was able to retrieve the 50-year-old biker, stretching him out to a waiting air ambulance.

He was flown to hospital at approximately 3:15 p.m.

The service has not been able to provide an update on his injuries at this time.

Traffic in the area of Cook Creek Road and the Island Highway was impacted due to the incident, but was cleared by late afternoon.
