The ministry of environment and Island Health has lifted the air quality advisory for the Cowichan Valley, but open burning restrictions remain in place.

Air Quality Meteorologist Earle Plain says concentrations of fine particulate matter has improved since an air quality advisory was issued Monday.

But officials say the open burn restrictions will stay in place until midnight.

Plain said Monday a number of open burns over the weekend helped contribute to fine particulate concentrations being higher than the objective target, along with a high-pressure system with no wind that trapped fine particulate matter on the valley floor.

The ministry says all open burning must comply with Municipal bylaws.
