The 15th annual Gingerbread Showcase has returned to Victoria, in support of Habitat for Humanity.

The yearly event sees local teams or individuals making themed gingerbread houses in a friendly, fundraising competition.

This year’s event kicked off on Nov. 25 and follows the theme of “Family Traditions.”

“The whole family will enjoy seeing the entries up close and personal,” said Scott Dutchak, Habitat Victoria CEO in a release Friday.

“It seems the bakers try to outdo themselves every year, but you can tell they had real fun with the theme of Family Traditions. I predict a close race for this year’s People’s Choice Award,” he said.

Unlike last year, the Gingerbread Showcase is taking place at the Hotel Grand Pacific, located at 463 Belleville St.

Visitors can vote for their favourite gingerbread creation by making a donation to Habitat for Humanity, which builds affordable homes for local families.

Donations can be made in-person at the showcase, or online.

Voting runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until Jan. 4. Winners will be announced on Jan. 6.
