Kade Dwolinsky, 34, has been charged with assault after he allegedly attempted to force a woman into a vehicle in central Nanaimo.

A Ladysmith man has been charged with assault after allegedly assaulting a woman out front of her workplace last month in central Nanaimo.

According to the Nanaimo RCMP, 34-year-old Kade Dwolinsky attempted to force a woman into a vehicle outside of her work on June 18 at around 6:30 p.m.

However, the woman managed to free herself from Dwolinsky’s grasp, ran away, and contacted 911. The woman, who police say knew Dwolinsky, was physically unharmed during the incident.

Dwolinsky was arrested sometime later without incident at his home in Ladysmith. He was held in custody overnight, charged with one count of assault, and then released on a promise to appear in court.

The Nanaimo RCMP say they are still investigating Dwolinsky as they believe there are other victims of his out there.

Cpl. Jon Stuart of the Nanaimo RCMP told CHEK in a brief e-mailed statement that Dwolinsky was held in police custody for a bail hearing and the released the next day and that its “not uncommon” for the judicial system to release suspected criminals prior to trial.

Asked whether there are any safety concerns for the victim, Stuart said she is “taking precautions to protect herself from the male as necessary.”

Dwolinsky has a court date set for Aug. 20 in Nanaimo.
